litigation
The Stokes Lawrence litigation practice covers all types of disputes with an emphasis on understanding the business context of the legal issue. Our approach is insightful, effective and collaborative.
Insightful
As a result of our collective experience, we are often called into disputes or potential disputes to assess potential risks and suggest alternatives to litigation. We consider alternatives early in the process, having successfully resolved many significant cases through unique business arrangements, preemptive motions, mediation and other alternative means of resolution.
Effective
The close working relationships we develop with in-house counsel and management make us an effective resource for our clients. We apply our knowledge of prior cases and transactions, the client's objectives, and industry contacts to achieve results. For instance, in the telecommunications industry, we have been instrumental in developing a favorable body of law for use in defending prospective consumer litigation.
Collaborative
From the outset of each engagement, we work closely with our clients to determine the appropriate strategic, communications and budgeting plans. By establishing client expectations at the outset, we are able to focus on swift and vigorous resolution of the dispute at hand.
For nearly 20 years, Stokes Lawrence has provided sophisticated yet personable service, drawing on experienced professionals attracted from larger firms, the top ranks of law schools and judicial clerkships. Our representative experience includes assisting Amazon.com; American Express; AT&T Wireless Services, Inc.; Cingular Wireless; Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound; J&H Marsh & McLennan, Inc.; Smith Barney; T-Mobile USA, Inc.; and Infospace, Inc., among others.
Stokes Lawrence has significant experience handling the resolution of a wide range of disputes. We work closely with our clients in reviewing general business practices, as well as specific transactions, with the goal of preventing potential litigation. For litigated matters, we are well-respected advocates in both state and federal courts, as well as alternative forums of dispute resolution. The major areas of the firm's litigation practice include:
